Refreshing the SaaS software for a B2B startup shaping the future of finance

Design Lead & No-Code Dev

This case study highlights the redesign of the Cloudfloat app, an Australian startup offering cash flow management solutions for businesses. We concentrated on enhancing its architecture, UI/UX, and mobile responsiveness to elevate performance and user experience.

Team

As the lead product designer, I collaborated closely with a junior designer, drawing insights from the CEO, backend developers, and the customer service team to ensure a holistic approach to the redesign.

Here's a sneak peek at the redesigned Cloudfloat app. The latest design is sleek and modern, created with responsiveness at its core, and crafted to make using the app a delight while boosting page loading speeds. This makeover is the first in a line of improvements geared towards accelerating the business's growth.

Challenges

Information Architecture: The service's outdated architecture obscured vital features, diminishing its value proposition. We prioritized reorganizing this to enhance visibility and user engagement.

User Interface Issues: An old and inconsistent UI confused users, complicating basic operations. Streamlining and updating the UI was essential for improving usability.

Non-responsive Design: The absence of a responsive design alienated mobile and tablet users. Addressing this was critical for expanding accessibility.

Performance Bottlenecks: The traditional multi-page setup led to lengthy loading times. Transitioning to a single-page application (SPA) framework was our strategic response, aimed at providing instant page transitions and elevating the user experience.

By focusing on these areas, we sought to significantly enhance the app's functionality, reach, and overall user satisfaction.

Constraints

The project was constrained by a tight timeline of two months for the redesign, implementation, and launch. Additionally, we needed to carefully consider user habits to prevent existing users from feeling lost in the new version.

Process

The redesign kicked off with team interviews for insights and a deep dive into the current architecture, key for aligning Cloudfloat's value with its navigation and structure. Competitor analysis set the stage for our architectural revamp.

With approval for the new architecture, we, including a junior designer, developed Cloudfloat's first UI kit. This modern set of design components aimed to unify the app’s look, boost user experience, and simplify design and development processes for future scalability.

I then applied these UI/UX enhancements using Bubble, a no-code platform, enabling swift development. After rigorous internal testing, we rolled out the changes in phases, starting with a small user group and gradually extending to all. Continuous feedback monitoring and adjustments ensured the redesign surpassed user expectations, significantly improving their Cloudfloat experience.

Final Result

The redesign transformed the platform with a modern, user-friendly interface, resolving past usability issues and modernizing its appearance. The revamped information architecture improved feature visibility, making navigation more intuitive and efficient.

We achieved complete mobile responsiveness, enhancing accessibility across all devices and significantly cutting page load times from 3-4 seconds to less than a second, resulting in a smoother experience.

The new 'Pay Now' button streamlined transactions, allowing instant payments. Together with a comprehensive dashboard offering quick insights into business metrics, these improvements empowered users with faster, more informed decision-making capabilities.

Outcome

The redesign has received great feedback from users, especially praising the faster loading speeds and smoother, more intuitive experience. The first positive result we saw was in engagement, with the number of payment requests submitted almost doubling from 5 per day to 9/10 per day with the new version. This is an incredible result after just 2 months of work. And the best part is that we have only just begun, having focused only on the basic issues so far.

"I love the new feature giving me control over paying early. That's adding to our businesses flexibility on planning as well as seeing the progress on each invoice submitted being reviewed in real time."

Fin ✌️

Taking on the Cloudfloat app redesign was a rewarding challenge that pushed us beyond our limits. Through teamwork, we achieved a perfect balance of beauty and functionality that not only meets but exceeds user expectations. This project has set a strong foundation for the platform's ongoing growth, marking a significant milestone in our journey.
